OUTSIDE-THE-BOX IDEAS FOR BUSINESS AND BEYOND

5 Apps Every Entrepreneur Needs

5 Apps Every Entrepreneur Needs

I’m not sure how entrepreneurs handled their lives before smart phones. I’m pretty grateful that I am running my business in an age where there’s a solution to almost every problem in the (literal) palm of my hand. Below are 5 apps that I personally couldn’t do without. And even though my industry may be different from yours, they’re universally useful!

Everlance

Yes, that’s Everlance, and not EverNOTE, which I assume most entrepreneurs use daily anyway. No, EverLANCE has changed my life and I can’t stop telling people about it. You see, I’m a terrible tracker when it comes to my mileage. I have tried notebooks and other apps and I just can’t seem to do it. However, Everlance can tell when I’m driving, marks my starting point and destination and pops a little notification onto my lock screen telling me how much the drive was worth. If it’s for work, I swipe right. If it’s not, I swipe left. It tallies my mileage and even tells me what my driving has been worth so far this year.

Pocket

Pocket is especially useful in my line of work since I manage social media accounts for several companies. However, anyone who has ever stumbled upon an article on Facebook, Twitter, or anywhere online and hasn’t had the time to read it should download Pocket. You can save articles and pages to read later and (in my case) use them to populate social media feeds, share information with clients, or learn something new…on your own time.

Tiny Scanner

If I had a nickel for every time I had to scan a document to send and was NOWHERE near a scanner, I’d be a wealthy woman. Tiny Scanner solves this problem by turning itself into a (drumroll please) Tiny Scanner. Scan documents at your convenience, store and save them as PDFs, and send at will. Why didn’t I think of it?

HereMatch

HereMatch is a fantastic networking tool…think LinkedIn meets Tinder (with a lot more class!).  When you’re at a network event, or any old place, really, tap herematch to check in. If you’ve connected your social media accounts, your status will update to show you’re active. But more importantly, you’ll see a list of other professionals who’ve checked into the same place as you. You can find people who need your services, people who offer services you need, or even a fellow alum from your alma mater. You can learn more about the people you’re networking with or contact them directly through the app. And as with any form of social media, be cautious about the amount of information you share.

Toggl

As a freelancer with many different clients and many different projects going on at all times, it’s super important for me to  track my time well. Toggl makes it incredibly easy, from set up to daily use, to tackle this task. You can use Toggl on the web, as a desktop widget or on your mobile – all your data gets synced in real time. Personally, I work better when it’s open. When I know I’m on a timer, I’m much less likely to try to multitask or get distracted.
